The Guildhall, located in the historic St. Matthew’s Quarter of Walsall, is being transformed into a dynamic creative and maker hub. Honouring the town’s rich industrial past, this Grade II* listed landmark will offer a new generation the innovative facilities and opportunities to carve out a rich creative future.
Lindsay was commissioned by Urban Hax to create a visual identity for The Guildhall, a grade II* listed landmark in the centre of Walsall, which is being converted into a leading creative hub for the town and the region. This cutting edge renovation will include state-of-the-art community makerspaces, studios and co-working areas, a café, gallery, and meeting facilities hosting a range of creative and cultural events for the wider community.
The first requirement of this identity was to create a printed prospectus to introduce the region's makers, start-ups and social enterprises to this new creative incubator. The design helps to communicate the many facets of the building, including its aim to empower creators from many disciplines to bring their visions to life and find a home in a welcoming, diverse and collaborative community.
A palette of warm concrete grey, bright lilac and lime, and a vivid blue portray a visionary and contemporary brand, whilst the logo itself is inspired directly from the lettering of the existing signage. A strong and playful grotesque sans typeface lends impact to headlines and subtle graphic devices reference the window arches and decorative mascarons on the front elevation of the building.
